Online Shopping

We had to present a topic we were interested in one of my classes, Living In a Virtual World. My group chose to research drones and everything about them. Every topic that was being presented were all interesting, from cyber crime, to Artificial Intelligence. But one of the ones that I am choosing to write about is Online Shopping, one of the other topics that a group presented.
Online shopping is starting to become way more common than anyone thought it would be. It brings in a different experience from driving to the store, grabbing an item, and then lining up to get ringed up at a register by a cashier. The similarities between regular shopping and online shopping is that there is a cart of some sorts that carries your items. At a store, there is a shopping cart to put your items in. In online, there is a section that is named ‘cart’ to bookmark the items you plan on purchasing. There is also customer service available for both, if needed.
One of the differences is that, when you go to a store, you can get your item right away, unless it is out of stock. If you purchase something online, you do not get them right away. You have to wait at least two days for the item to be shipped at your door. There is also less privacy if you online shop, you have to enter in your information; like your name, street address, and your credit card number. Regular shopping is way more private, you do not know who the cashier is, and the cashier does not know you, which gives a barrier of privacy.
Online shopping seems way more convenient, but it also causes disintermediation. The more online shopping companies there are, less jobs will be needed. There will be no more cashiers, not as much stockers, and less human customer service. Instead, sometimes there will be robots taking their place for customer help.
I personally do not online shopping, unless it is something I cannot purchase at a regular store. I like the traditional feeling of going to a store, and having the service of trying something out, seeing if something fits or suits me right instead of going through the inconvenience of shipping it back.
